The strike situation has sufficiently improved to permit a reduction of the military guard. The French press condemns the strikers for interfering with public services wfeile the Government was negotiating with the companies for the redress of the men's grievances. Pataud, for whose arrest a warrant is out for inciting electricians to strike, is in hiding. London, October 14. The steamer Australien calls at Genoa to embark passengers who were prevented from joining at Marseilles. STRIKE SMASHED. SPORADIC SYMPATHY. . GOVERNMENT'S FIRMNESS EFFEC- ' Received 16, 535 p.m. Paris, October 15. Tie railwaymen are gradually resuming work. A number of sporadic movements are noticeable in other trades in sympathy with the railwaymen, but these are not disquieting in the face of the firmness of the Government. Troops dispersed a gathering of 15,000 builders and navvies who were agitating for a nine-hours' day and present pay. A few harmless shots were fired. The masons and bricklayers of Paris have Mttmek. The police stopped the processions and a conflict ensued. Missiles injured several of the police, and tome of the rioters were hurt. M. Briand, the Prime Minister, has smashed the strike.
