AMUSEMENTS.

HAMILTON SCARLET TROUBADOURSThe Hamilton Scarlet Troubadours opened their two nights' season at the Theatre Royal last evening, when therewas not a large attendance of the public. A good programme of varied items was submitted. The troupe is 3. strong* one, same fourteen performers taking part. The vocal numbers, both solo and chorus, were nicely rendered. These * were interspersed with clever dancing, turns and other interesting items. The butterfly dance by four young ladieswas very pretty, one of the butterflies being suspended in mid-air and floating round most gracefully. The "new telephone boy" caused much mirth. This, afternoon a matinee performance will be given at 2 o'clock, when children will be admitted to all parts of the house for sixpence. The season will conclude this evening,, when a good programme will be submitted.

"DOROTHY." Judging from the very • satisfactory manner in which a rehearsal of this comedy opera by members of the New Plymouth Operatic Society went from start to finish last night, the production onTuesday and Wednesday next in the Theatre Royal cannot fail to please theatregoers. The cast of characters fe a powerful one, and it is gratifying to* note that even at this stage the principals are letter-perfect and throw into their parts a free and delightful abandon. The chorus, too, show evidence of caTeful training, and their items are very creditable indeed. We had not, of course, an opportunity of seeing the stage effects, but understand that tht scenery will be the same as was in use at the production by the Wellington Operatic Society recently. Another feature of the opera will be some specially attractive dancing. We hope to see bumper houses on both occasions. The box plan is now open at Collier's music warehouse.
