SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS

The ordinary monthly meeting of the School Commissioners was held yester-j day. Present: Messrs. Jas. Wade (chair-, man), F. Simpson and A. Morton. | The Board confirmed the resolution! passed at last meeting to accept a sur-| render of section 3, Huirangi Town, Belt, and to grant him a new lease at £2O per annum, etc. According to notice of motion, Mr. Wade moved, "That, recognising that improvements made upon reserves held on the form of renewable lease now in use by the Board are the property of the' lessee, and not of the Commissioners, it. is desirable that the covenant as to insurance of buildings against fire should be waived in current leases, and omitted in those to be issued hereafter, so that lessees may be free to insure in their own names or in favor of a mortgagee. That the Board's solicitor be instructed to frame a resolution to give effect to, this expression of the Board's views." I This was seconded by Mr. Morton, and after discussion was carried unanimous-' ly, with the addition of a proviso that precautions be taken to ensure that the plans of buildings to be erected in towns, or townships shall in all cases be approved by the Board; that adequate insurance thereon be effected in the name of the lessee or of any mortgagee, and that in case of loss the plans for reinstatement shall be submitted for approval by the Commissioners. The Board's solicitor reported that the' arbitrators between the Commissioners and J. N. Gamlin had fixed the value of improvements at £1124, and the rent to be payable under the Tenewal lease at £BO. _ I A letter was received Irom Alick B,ea, with reference to his trespass upon section 1560, New Plymouth, and the secretary'siffieply thereto was read. It was decided that the matter be placed' in the 'hands of the Board's solicitor to take such proceedings as he may consider advisable. I A letter was received from Mr. C. E. Raby, lessee of section 4 block 13, Waro, and was referred to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for his consideration. ' The secretary stated that the lessee 1 who had been reported as allowing furze on "his section was having the matter ; attended to. The treasurer reported a balance ol £404 6s sd.
