AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
| A well-attended meeting of the coml mittee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society was held last evening. The president, Mr. Walter Am bury, occupied the chair. The Borough Council wrote agreeing to the Society's proposals re St. Germain's square. Resolved that sections of St. Germain's square be submitted to auction separately. The Railway Department wrote giving particulars of special trains for the show. These were considered most satisfactory. ; It was reported that the club room ai the secretary's office was being utilised by a fair number of members. A good .deal of interesting literature is now available, also writing materials, etc. The committee hope to see members take full advantage of all privileges. The room is now open every Saturday between 11 and 5 o'clock. Mr. H. Gillies, one of the Society's oldest judges, who recently lost his wife, wrote thanking the society for the letter of condolence forwarded. The Egmont Village School Committee wrote enquiring when the special prize awarded to the school would be forthcoming, also asking whether the missing exhibit had turned up. Resolved that the secretary write and explain the matter, and that the certificate and prize money be forwarded. The Stratford Agricultural Society wrote requesting that- a conference be held with a view of considering the advisability of increasing the price of admission from Is to 2s, and any other business that might be brought forward. It was resolved to adhere to the same charges as formerly. Resolved, that a stockmen's event be added to the catalogue. In this event bottles are placed on a number of posts, and the stockman who succeeds with "his whip in dislodging most bottles will be the winner.
I Resolved, that the secretary secure quotation from the Garrison Band for music at Show. An amendment was proposed that quotations be invited from Inglewood, Waitara, Eltham, Stratford I and Opunake bands. On a show of hands the amendment was carried. It was decided to call tenders amongst local jewellers for medals. ° Resolved, that school committees throughout the district be circularised requesting that children be given a holiday on People's Day of the show. The various committees for the forthcoming show were appointed. Stewards were appointed as under: —Judges, stewards, Messrs. N. King. G. Tisch and Blundell; ring stewards, Messrs. S. Smith, H. Linn, A. H. Street, T. Smellie and Elliot; parade marshal, Mr. F. Watson; light horse stewards, Messrs. E. Griffiths, H. Joll, Colson, A. Giddv and E. Guscott; draught horses, Messrs. L. Jackson and J. Connett; shorthorn cattle, Messrs. R. H, Pigott, W. Stanley, J. H. Street; Jerseys, Messrs. G. Colson and R. P. Cornwall; Ayrshire, Messrs. K. C. Webster and L. A. Nolan; Holstein and grade cattle, Messrs. A. H. Halcombe and J, R. Hill; sheep and pigs, Messrs. A. Wood and G. Brown; dairy produce, H. King, A. Morton and J. Burgeas; dogs, Messrs. Ellerm, Chivers and Elwin; measuring steward, Messrs. W. Sole and F. Orbell; paddocking and train committee, Messrs. Stead, Colson, H. Joll, G. Brown, A. Wood, S. Smith, Guscott, L. Jackson, H. Linn and 0. W. Sole; sheep guessing, Mr. J. J. El win and F. J. Morris.
