THE ANTARCTIC
CAPTAIX SCOTT INTERVIEWED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, October 13. Tlie Terra Nova arrived yesterday, after a good trip from the Cape. Captain Scott, interviewed, said he hoped to leave for New Zealand on Saturday. It was important to reach there as quickly as possible, as stores had to be collected and ponies broken in. He hoped to leave New Zealand at the end of next month, and to reach McMurdo Sound, where the first depot was to be made, at the end cf December. The expedition will be divided into two parties, the western and larger having its headquarters at MeMurdo Sound, and ihe eastern part in King Edward VII. Land. From one of these ports Captain Scoft would make his dash for the Pole at the end of October next year. He expected to reach the upper plateau early in December, and, if possible, the Pole on December 22, when the sun achieved its maximum altitude. Sir E. Shaekleton's route would be followed, with variations. Lieut. Evans would lead the western and Lieut. Campbell the eastern party. Both were experienced naval officers.
