Danaus fell away at the last stage, and Master Soult chased Olivaster into the straight, where Conge dropped ; back, Danaus meanwhile regaining lost ground rapidly. OTAKI SPUING MEKTING. } Levin, Last Night. j On the new course at Otaki to-day tin?' Utaki Maori Racing Club began its Spring -Meeting. When the -racing com- j menced, the going was very slippery, in; consequence of the previous day's heavy rains, but at noon the elements cleared and tempted local people to join the visitors from Wellington and Palmerston North in participating. In the downpours which occurred frequently during' the afternoon, the course became a quagmire, and each succeeding race was run relatively slower and slower. A large number of Parliamentarians were amongst the visitors, and the attendance as a whole was astonishingly large. The meeting was the first held upon the new course. Results:—
