"Mak Siccar" i s one of the old Scotch expression which has back of it the shrewd wisdom for which Scotchmen are noted. "Make sure" is the Anglicised translation, but whether expressed in Scotch or English every woman who sets out to purchase her summer dress material should "mak siccar" that she gets the best value for her money. la their replace advertisement to-day Messrs. Morey and Son announce values in voiles, shantungs and cotton* such as will appeal to the woman who wishes to make sure.
In our advertising columns ladies will be pleased to learn that S. E. Cooper and Co., ladies' tailors of Wanganui, are holding a display in New Plymouth on Wednesday and Thursday, October 26 land 27. This firm is celebrated for its splendid class of materials and trimmings, and this season's goods totally eclipse all others. A splendid range of Harris linens, shantungs, tussore and silician silks, in addition to light tweeds, worsteds and serges in plain and striped will be seen for the first time in New Plymouth. A piano must not only be good when you buy it; it must be so constructed that it will remain good. There are some pianos sold that are mostly, varnish and noise. The British and Continental Piano Company, however, is prepared to guarantee the pianos it sells, and in to-day's new advertisement Mr. Hoffmann, the local manager, deals with "piano durability," such as is found in the Bechstein, Bell and some other mentioned makes.
