TARANAKI POULTRY SOCIETY

ANNUAL REPORT. The report of the president of the Taranaki Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society, to be presented at the annual meeting on Friday evening, is as follows: It gives me very great pleasure to be able to report that through the energy of our secretary (Mr. H. J. Hobbs) and a committee of real live members, the society is now (with one exception) om of debt, this being in connection with the Drill Hall account. Since the present secretary took over the manage ment of the'society, two years ago, we have paid off over £SO of bad debts. It was through Mr. Hobbs that the side shows were introduced, and this year a dozen different sections were run by the society. The baby show was a distinct success, and brought the society out of its difficulty. The poultry section was well represented, the various sections comparing most favorably with previous years. All the other branches of the show were good, and the thanks of tht society are due to Mr. Sandford and Miss McDonald, of the Technical School, for their valuable assistance to the society. You will notice by the balance sheet that the principal receipts were members' subscriptions and donations £l6 8s Cd, entrance fees £42 13s, door takings £43 6s 3d. This year the door takings were very good, and had the first clav been fine, as was the second day, when the baby show was held, we should have had, without doubt, a record gate and a gopd balance to hand over to the incoming committee. I may mention that a bonus is due to the secretary, the amount of which must be decided *by this meeting. You will be called upon to elect a new secretary, as I understand our present secretary has decided not to stand for re-election. In conclusion, the thanks of the society are due to the numerous fanciers who sent exhibits from long distances, and In- doin<* =o helped to make the show a success." Thanks are also due to the ladies who assisted us with the baby show; to all who donated special prizes, the value of which was a record for the soc'etv; and to the proprietors of the Herald and News for their many acts of kindness and help given to the society.
