DISTRICT NEWS.

EGMONT VILLAGE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There is still a lot of sickness in the district. Mr. F. W. Olson is suffering from an acute attack of pleurisy and bronchitis. (His condition has been causing his friends considerable anxiety. It is to be hoped he will soon recover his health. Mr. R. Jones, who has for some time been an inmate of the New Plymouth Hospital, was further operated on for Mood poisoning last wvuk. I understand that the operation was as successful as could be expected. On Tuesday evening the fortnightly meeting of the Crib Club was held. Tht prizes were won by Messrs. J. Gaylard, N. S. .Tame* and F. Cheffings. The Village team plays Kaimiro next week. On Saturday the local cricket team had arranged for a match against Kaimiro, but owing to the prevalence of sickness both teams failed to muster a full side. A scratch match was consequently played—a team selected by the captain v. a team selected by the vice-captain. A useful afternoon's practice resulted in the captain's team proving victorious by a narrow margin. The local club should be able to muster a very creditable eleven for the Saturday competitioithis year. It is with regret that I have to report the death of the eldest son of Mr. Frank Nundt. The cause of death was pneumonia. A large number of sym •pathetic friends followed the corpse" to its last resting place on Saturday afternoon. Much sympathy is felt "for the bereaved parents. With the spell of comparatively fim weather the grass, which has been at a standstill for some time, is comng away fast, much to the gratification of the local farmers, for feed was beginning to Tun scarce. The first of the mountain parties put in their appearance on Sunday, Avhen two or three parties went through from New Plymouth. The fishing season opened last week, and anglers have been busy since. Several good catches have been reported, and the fish appear to be in fine condition.

Mrs. A. Mcßeth returned from a trip to Wanganui om Saturday night.
