At the wool sales there were sold to ■home buyers 75,000 bales, Continental 41,000 bales, United States 400 bales, carried over 13,000 bales. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. Following is the High Commissioner's report under date London, October 8: .Mutton.—The market is firm, but the (kmand only moderate, owing to re dnced supplies. Canterbury 4i/d, North Island 4d. Lamb.—There is no alteration in tht market since last week. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury Sy B d. Beef. Better demand and market firmer. Supplies of American chilled beef small; New Zealand hinds 3y„d, fores 2%d. Butter. The market is quiet, but steady, and shows signs of strength for best quality. New Zealand, no supply on hand; Australian, 115s; Danish, 118s; Siberian, 106s. Cheese. The market is quiet, buv firm. Buyers are cautious and traasactions in cheese are very limited. The supply of New Zealand cheese is practically exhausted. Canadian, 555. Hemp. The market is steady but the demand only moderate. Prices are Armer. New Zealand good fair on spot per ton £24 10s, fair grade £2l 10s, fair current Manila £2O 15s. Forward shipments about the same. The output from Manila for the week was 22,000 bales. River Plate Shipments.—The following are the shipments of frozen mutton and lamb received from tlie Argentine during September 1910:—London: Mutton, 66,901 carcases; lamb, 11,915 carcases. Liverpool, 56,184 and 422. Hull, 7607 and 1438. Cardiff, 5926 and 699. Ireland, 3311 carcases mutton, no lamb. Newcastle, 12,472 and 500. Total: 152,401 carcases mutton, 14,474 carcases lamb: The commerce and tourists' division of the Department of Agriculture and Commerce and Tourists has received the following cablegram from the High Commission for New Zealand, dated London, October 8, 1910, regarding the closing of the fifth series of the colonial wool sales:—The woo! sales are closing to-day. The market is rather unsettled and prices somewhat irregular. The advance has been partially lost. Estimated values are about the same as the closing rates of last sale, namely: Superior merino Is Id to Is 3'/od, medium merino W/zi to Is OV»d, inferior merino 7%d to lOd, fine crossbred? (all grades, Is iy s d to Is 4d, medium crossbreds (all grades) lid to Is Id, coarse crossbreds (all grades) B%d to 10y 2 d.
