I &M. COURT. At a sitting of the S.M. Court judgment was given for plaintiffs by default as follows:—W. P. (Stiell v- Mrs. M. Mercer, claim £3 l'Bs 4d, costs ss; H. Langman v. Rophia, claim £1 8s Bd, costs 8s; Graville Bros. v. William Walsh, claim £8 'l3s 9d, costs 24s 6d. B. Plaintiff claimed that he had sold the table to defendant for the sum of £H, and that whilst in defendant's possession the table was split. He (plaintiff)' had another table in a shed belonging to defendant's father, and defendant, without his knowledge, took possession of the table, and he now claimed for the table and damages. Plaintiff's brother gave corroborative evidence. The defence was that the table as stated was purchased and in the process of seasoning. it split. The defendant notified plaintiff to this effect and agreed that defendant should have the table that was in defendant's father's shed. The account for this table was settled by a contra account. Some timo afterwards plaintiff was at defendant's house, when defendant's wife asked what he would take for the table, and a mutual arrangement at 10s was made. Plaintiff purchased from defendant a sheep-dog pup, and the pup was to square the table account . Corroborative evidence was given by defendant's wife, father, brother and cousin. THE TELEPHONE BUREAU. It will be pleasing to users of the telephone bureau to know that at some time there is a possibility of a soundproof room being built. •'Some three weeks ago the Public Works Department inspected the office and no dbubt we shall some day hear that "the ftiatter is being kept steadily in view." Then perhaps another posse of officers will inspect and report and recommend tihe expenditure, prepare plans and specifications, call for tenders and !$o through a similar routine as would be invplved in the erection of the Wellington Post Office, then find the lowest tender is Is lOd higher than the estimate and the matter will be further delayed. Why in the name of commonsense the Department do not ask the local postmaster to have the work done—it only means a' few pounds—is past all comprehension; but we will live in hope. The annual meeting of the Clifton Rowing Club takes place this evening.
