Several mill-owners have offered to employ Howe (the grinder whose discharge for refusing to pick cotton seeds from the machinery at Fern Hill precipitated the lock-out). The operatives are not desirous o! an immediate end to the trouble, as the lockout pay will be withheld if the strike is finished before Thursday. BERLIN METAL WORKERS. Berlin, October 4. German shipbuilders have offered concessions which, if accepted, will avert a lock-out in the metal industry. 6YDNEY SLAUGHTER M EN'S DISPUTE Sydney, October 5. There is fresh trouble in the slaughtering dispute. The men demanded the dismissal of non-unionists before restarting, which the employers refuse.
