HOSPITAL BOARD
SPECIAL MEETING. | A special meeting of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was , held yesterday morning. There were J present: Messrs. F. C. Bellringer (chairman), G. Browne, Cutfield, Maxwell, Andrews, Macßeynolds, J. Brown, O'Sullivan, McDonald. Dr. Valintine, Inspecof Hospitals, was also pres- '' ent. ! The question of removing the Old ] Peoples' Home to another site was dis- , cussed. The committee appointed to consider the matter reported that they ' had obtained a suitable site for tht ; home at Westown. It was agreed to adopt the committee's proposals, and an area of 32 acres of ground belonging to Mr. James Sole was purchased at £BO per acre. Drs. Valintine and ; Leatham were both strongly in favor of the idea. It was decided to call for tenders for the removal of the present home. | A letter was .read from the Christ- 1 church Board stating that that Board had passed a resolution asking the' Government to call a conference to dis- | cuss the means of combating consumption. . It was suggested that a con-' ference he held in November. The Board decided to extend its sympathy 1 and co-operation in the matter, but thought that November was too early to hold the conference. J It was resolved to undertake cerj tain duties under the Public Health Act at present carried out by the different public bodies, providing thai' bodies would delegate their powers to
the Board. j
