FARM AND DAIRY
KAKARAMEA DAIRY CO. The annual report of the Kakaramea Dairy Co. states:—Out of the balance a,t credit of, appropriation account, the directors recommend a payment of one penny per lib. .butter-fat, absorbing the sum of £64 l' 18s 3d, leaving a balance of £59 'l3s 9d, to which is to be added tlhe amount to be realised on "Stock of requisites" as yet unsold. This will be sufficient to jneet all liabilities incurred during the buttcr-makiing period. The unexpended balance (if any) will be available as a further -bonus to shareholders on their butter-fat supply. You will Ibe asked to consider the question of going into voluntary liquidation, resolutions to that effect being submitted for adoption. The profit and loss account shows a balance of £538 l l os 7d, which' has (been placed to the appropriation account. Butter sales amounted to £9849 18s lOd, and milk supplies received £7930 12s 4d. Last year several farmers in tlhe Levin district lost several good cows through choking when,, eating mangolds. Mr.Jack Johnson, of Weraroa, has invented a novel way of overcoming the danger. He cut a supplejack some six feet long out of the bush and straightened it in front of djhe fire. He then hollowed it ! at'one end, which (he rounded to the size of an egg, and bored a small hole in the | centre, so as to grip anything that stopped in the animal's -gullet. • He then by means of a forcible push drives the obstacle into the cow's stomach! He has used the supplejack five times this with success, four times on one animal. Bach Week tlhe 'supply of dairy produce increases at the grading works and present indications point to a very busy season (says the Pa tea Press). On Monday of last week there was a record supply of 800 cases of butter sent in, to say nothing of the usual supply of cheese, which is also very large at present. The staff is now kept very busy, and expect to be much busier within t'he next week or two.
