Y.M.C.A.
FINANCE PROBLEMS. * By Telegraph.—Pr«w Association. Wellington, Last Night. ' The chief item on the ord r paptr of the Y.M.C.A. Convention yesterday was the deiliveranco of an address by Mr. W. H. George, vice-president of the Wellington Association, on ''Finance problems of ■fhe Australasian Assoeia lions." He emphasised ibe fact that tike Associations did not want mere figureheads on their directorates. He advocated the adoption of certain reforms in the management. One of these was that the finances of the Association sihould ibe handled in the same manner as tlhose of a joint stock concern. A iboard of, say, twenty-one directors slhould be elected, seven to retire amnuially, and no more than seven of the number to be members of one denomination. Ministers were too busy to take seats upon t<he directorate. It'was entirely a laymen's movement. No department of work should be allowed to appeal to anybody for help at all. either for trophies or by way of con- erts of :<nv kind, before first obtaining the consent of the finance committee. In the case of large gifts from firms or companies, special tickets for -membership should be handed to them for distribution amongst their employees. Each member of die board should also take 'the names of merchants from whom foe should personally solicit subscriptions. For the coming year in Wellington there should be at least 200 men subscribing in this way, and it was for the board to wait upon these men in preference ,to the general secretary.
