STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(Prom Our Own Correspondent) Stratford, Saturday. Mr. 0. C Jackson, who was admitted to the Stratford' Hospital some ten clays ago, died at am early hour this morning. The deceased had oily recently come to Taramaki from Hawke's Bay, and had purchased the property of Mesßrs. Speck Bros., at Pohokura. He was cleaning out the house, and was carrying some blasting powder whilst he was smoking a cigarette. A spank gjot on to the powder and ignited it, with the result that Mr. Jackson was severely burnt by the explosion. It was time before he was found by the neighbors and brought to the Hospital. At first he made satisfactory progress towards recovery, but the shock to the system proved too great, and he passed away this morning. Several informations for sly grog selling, at Te Wera have been laid;, and will come before the Magistrate at the next sitting of the Court here. The annual meeting of the Stratford Gun Qlub will be held on Tuesday night. I Mr. and Mrs. Rowson, who have beea on a seven months trip to the Old Country, arrived home in Stratford last night. At a meeting of the Kirk Session of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church yesterday, a resolution was passed tendering to the family of the late Mr. J. Irvine the sympathy of the minister, congregation and session in their sail bereavement, and placing on the record their appreciation and recognition of J the long and faithful services rendered i by the deceased. |
