THE A.J.C. MEETING. TANAMI WINS THE DERBY. By Cable.—'Press Association.—Copyright. Received October lj 7.40 p.m. Sydney, Saturday Night. The Australian Jockey Club's Spring meeting commenced at Randwick to-day. The weather was -fine and. the going good. There was a very large attendance. Following are the results of the., racing:— • -. '~" Hurdles. —Beckoning, 12.4, lj Woolloomooloo, 10.5, 2; Gay Hampton, 10.4, 3. Eight started. The winner was prominent throughout, and in the straight beat Woolloomooloo home by six lengths. Time, 3min 46% sec. Hoanga and Nelius were the non-starters. Trial Stakes. Patronatus, 8.8, 1; Crown Derby, 8.3, 2; Green Bank, 7.12, 3. Nine started. Green Baak made the running well into the straight. Patronatus came through and won by tour lengths, half a length between secona and third. Time, 2min B%sec. A.J.C. DERBY, one mile and a half. Mr. Colin Smith's br c Beverage (Pike) . 3 ■ The non-starters were Woad and Laiarome. In a record field, Beverage and Prince Loch were the first to move. Leaving the straight, Cadonia went to the front, leading from Styria and Beverage. Before reaching the mile, Indiscreet took charge, with Styria and Cadonia next. Indiscreet showed the way to the bend, where Tanami forgea through, followed by Morilla and Beverage, with Bobadea and Duke Foote close up. A good finish was fought out, Tanami winning' by two lengths, half a lengbh separating the second aad third horses. Time, 2min 361/Jsec. Epsom Handicap, one mile. Silver Hampton (Smith), 1; Flavinius (Hickey), 2; Apple Pie (Samson), 3. All the acceptors started. The winner carried 7.3. Malt King, Lady Ruenalf and Motor- were the quickest away. Motor soon reached the front, followed by Silver Hampton and Bright Laddie. Before six furlongs was reached, Broadsword led by three lengths from Lady (Ruenoif and Penniless. At Kensington, Broadsword was two lengths clear of 'Penniless, who was in (front of Mundic. Then came Laddie, Maltine and Flaviaiius. At the bend Ra ran into second place from Broadsword, attended by Maltine, Flavinius, Bright Laddie and Silver Hempton. Once in the straight Ra, was joined by Broadsword. The pair ran together for a distance, while on the outside Flavinius and Silver Hampton were coming fast. At the ihalf distance, -Ra appeared to have the race won, but Silver Hampton and Flavinius put in a tremendous finish, SJLver Hampton (winning by a head, Apple Pie being three lengths off, third, attended by Mai* King, Ra and Call Boy. Then cam© Penniless, Malt King and Lady Reunalf, with Equitas, Bobby and Pbi Dance last. Time, lroin 38y 2 sec Spring Stakes.—Comedy King, 8.7, 1; Prince Foote, 9.0, 2; Pendil, 9.5, 3. Ten started. Britain and Master Soult got the best d the start. Once fairly going Britain had a good lead over Son ot Marsh, Soult falling back. Entering the back, Son of Marsh took charge, followed by Britain, Trafalgar, Comedy King and Prince Foote. There was little change to the entrance of the straight, where Comedy joined Son 01 Marsh, Prince Foote and Trafalgar being handy. When fairly in the straight Comedy King dashed to the front, followed by Prince Foote. A good finish, Won by two lengths, Pendil three lengths away. Master Soult was never prominent after the start, and finished third to lost. Time, 2min 34sec. Kensington Handicap.—Grist, 8.7, 1; Troon, 8.7, 2; HartfuH, 8.0, 3. Twentysix started. A good race, with a clafc tering finish, a head separating the placed horses. Time, lmin 27% sec. Received 2, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, October 2. At the Sydney race the attendance was 3H.000. In tlhe Hurdles HX3. and! Diorite fell, Both were injured and the former had to 'be shot.
WANGANUI RACES. SECOND DAY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Saturday. The weather was unfavorable for the second day of the ,Wariganui Races. The attendance was good, and the total put through the machine for the meeting was £17,586, as against £10,364 for last year, Results:— Owen Handicap.—Countermine l, Mon Ami 2, Te Roti 3. Also started: Emblem and Merchantman. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 14 4-ssec, Railway Hack Handicap. Golden Loop 1, Valentine 2, Attention 3. Also started: Gold Battery, All Blue, • Big Blast, Etiroco, Falsetto, Eastwind, Sir Tullocli and Allurement. Time, lmin 15sec. Brunswick Hurdles. Sardonyx 1, Lonigper 2, Xavier 3. Also started: Tauira, Ruemac, Gold Bird, Waitapua ana Moose. Won easily. Time, 2m in 489ec. Marangai Handicap.—Electrakoff, 1; Dreadless 2, The Lark 3. Also started: Swimming Belt, Lethean and Master Laddo. Won by a length. Time, lmin 44sec. Aramoho Hack Hurdles.—The Native 1, Kotare 2, Te Whetu 3. Also started: Waikaraka. Won by a head. Time, 2min 51sec. Higgie Handicap.—Lady Medalist 1, Tiptoe 2, Coronetted 3. Also started: Clemora, Sir Antrim, Wimmera, John and Marton. Won by a length and a half. Time, lmin lOsec. Moutoa Hack.—First Battery 1, Mallet 2, Cheddar 3. Also started: Shuja, Rangikura, Tom Gkn, St. Liunsden, Rangikapua, Ejlostere, Clorinda and Stevens. Won by a nose'. Time, lmin 44 4-ssec.
