ROBBERS ON THE WEST COAST. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Friday. Detectives Mitchell and Hunt arrested last night Alfred Prior and William Newton on a charge of stealing at Greymouth jewellery valued at £3OO, the property of H. \V. Lloyd. The detectives searched the accused's belongings and found a large collection of jewellerv, some of which was the property of Lloyd and some stolen from Westport. Two other charges will be preferred against tluein. The aecuse.l, who recently arrived from America, are English by birth. They only arrived in Dunedin on Tuesday. Accused are professional pugilists who arrived from America a. month ago and went to Westport. They admit that they broke into Freeman's and Jacob's shops, stealing goods to the value of £lO and £l5O respectively. They then wealt to Greymouth and broke into Lloyd's and stole jewellery valued at £3OO. They sold some, threw a quantity overboard, and brought the 'balance to Dunedin. They were masquerading as Burke and McGuire. Prior made a statement to a detective admitting three robberies on the Coast. Prisoners travelled overland from the Coast to Lyttelto-n and shipped by the Talune to Dune Jin. A (SEAFARER CHARGED. Christclrurch, Last Night. At the Lyt-tclton Police Court this morning a man named William Jack, a donkeymam on the steamer Kini, was charged witifa having on or about September 24 at Greymouth broken and entered the premises of H. W. Lloyd and stolen therefrom a quantity of jewellery ■valued at £3OO, the property pf H. W. Lloyd. On the application of thie police .the accused was remanded until October S to appear at Greymouth.
