SOUTH BRITISH- INSURANCE CO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The report and balance-sheet of the South British Insurance Company for the year ended August 31 shows a profit of £67,663. After adding £IO,OOO to the reinsurance fund and a sum of £30,000 to the reserve fund the directors recommend that a dividend for the second half of the year' be Is 9d per share, which, with ail interim dividend of Is 6d per share in April, will make a total distribution for the year of 3s 3d per share. The gross assets oi the company amount to £703,860. SOUTHLAND'S PROGRESS. Invercargill, Last Night. Ail' excellent indication of the progress of Southland is given iby the Customs returns for the quarter ended September 30. The duty on impojfits for tihat period amounted to £24/230 7s Id, ae against £■19,616 li7s for the correspond'rig quarter of last year. The principal increases are -in spirits, cigarettes, tobacco and gpods ad valorem. The total is, a record for Southland, the highest previously hawing been £24,0 H n - for the qu&rter ending September .%>, ] 904. In that, case, however, the figures were based on tihe old tariff and includted' sugar (now admitted free) £1205 19s 9d, and about £ilooo in respect of dhities now reduced.
