BOWLING
MTZEOY. CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. There was an attendance of fourteen members last night at the annual meeting of the iFitzroy Bowling Club, held in the pavilion. iMr. F. S. Jackson presided. The annual 'report congratulated the club on a very successful season. The green had been in ;..ood playing order all through the season. The club had won ten out of sixteen matches played, lost five and drawji one. Probably the most j exciting matches were those played] against New Plymouth., The first, play- • ed on the New Plymouth green, resulted. in an easy victory for Fiteroy, the sec-; 1 ond was drawn, and the third ended in a [ victory for Fitzroy by one point. The club was to be congratulated, on these, wins against sucb an old and formidable i club. The winter play had been the' means of bringing in a-fair amount of j revenue, and, notwithstanding this, the green was at ,present in better condition to start the new season than ever before. The annual social was very successful, and thanks, were due to the committee, audi especially to. the ladies, for-their valuable assistance. The profits of the same, wlhich could not be shown in this ye&ifs amounted to £7 7s Bd.. It was satisfactory to note that the receipts, of the preceding year about balanced! the expenditure. The prospects for/ tfee coming season depended entirely on, :tfee number of new, members that could be brought in, and the hope was expressed -that all members would do their best in this respect. The report concludted: "We must express our very great regret at the serious loss incurred the club by the death of our late president, iMr. Arthur Lealand. Mr. Lealand' took more 'than ordinary interest in the affairs of the club, and for many year? was a keen. and. enthusiastic member." _ _ "■'■'■'* The cbairman- pointed out that, the ohampionsJhdp cup toad been.won by Mr. W. Healy, the handicap pairs by Messrs Oxenham and iCallender, and, tEe beginner's prize by Mr. F. W, Cotoi Thie report was adopted. ■ '' v. Officers were elected as follows:—President, Mr. Wi, Healyj vice-presidents, Messrs F,, S. Jackson, 0. Oxenham and 0. S. Rennell; 'secretary and treasurer, Miv A. Lovegrovej. general committee, Messrs. J?. Lealand, iC. S. Rennell, G. Griffiths, J. A&ott, 0. Oxenham, T. Buxton, and officers ex officio; auditor, Mr. F. S. Jackson j green committee, Messrs Jackson and Abbott. Mr. Lovegrove moved, according to notice; that jthe subscription for the ensuing season be. £2 Ite.—Mr. Abbott seconded tlie:motion. A-lengthy argument, ensued. In support of tftie motion it was pointed out that the present, subscription was insufficient, and a few (members were too frequently called up to "dip, dip, dip." On the other hand, it was urged that the higher subscription would cause some of the present members to ,d<rop out, and would prevent new members from joining. It was pointed out that the motion, if carried, would make the Fitzroy Club tie most expensive club in New Plymouth. Owing to want of unanimity on the point, Mr. Lovegrove withdrew the motion. ' The commiteee will be recommended •to make it a rule that on Thursdays and (Saturdays rinks be drawn at 2.15 p.m., and play start at 2.30 p.m. On the motion of Mr. Dingle, it was decided to elect only four permanent skips mow, and that these select four more later in the season. Messrs W. Healy, CaUender, G. Griffiths, C. S. Ken- 1 nell, P. Lealand, and Abbott were nominated., and Messrs Griffiths, Rennell, Healy and Lealand were elected. f The president' announced that from next Thursday the green would be opened for play, weaUher permitting, on. Thursdays and Saturdays/ Votes of thanks were" accorded to the outgoing officers and the Press. A resolution of condolence was passed, and directed to be forwarded to the widow of the late Mr. A. Lealand. The Opunake Bowling Club is in a very happy state financially. At the! end of the year it had a credit balance of £lB on working account, and its as-' sets exceeded its liabilities by £270.; About a dozen new members have joined') this season. The green is in good order.' " ■ t
