NOTES ON THE MEETING.
(By "Motooa.") Wanganui, Last Night.
There was a large attendance and big fields at -the Wanganui spring meeting. The racing, was 'somewhat marred By wretched 'starting. The Taranaki-owned horsjeß, St. Toney and JClemora, won raees rather easily. Faunus was favorite m the Flying Handicap and after Mon Aini had made thei running to the stiraigihit; he came .through, and just lasted long enough to.ibeat Electrakoff by a narrow margin. Emblem was left at: :fche post. Cheddar 1 was the Ibest backed in the Maiden and caught Big Blast at the distance, iwinning a good race by I half a length. AH started in the Guineas. iSonite made the pace a cracker to the straight and Tribulation closed tap and the faroritie, Danube, came through with a great run in the last furlong, scoring by nearly a length. The rest Were well feuteni. Nothing but WHrnmera would go down with the punters for 'the big 'hurdles, but lie hit several fences and nearly came down in front of the stand. Tauira won comfortably by half a length from Xavier, who, came with a badly judged late rum. Waitapu was fifth, and Paritutu and Moose whipped in the field. Te Whetu won tie Hack Hurdles all the way. Waikaraka ran a good race and Kotare ran creditably. All Blue and Golden Loop were the popular fancies for the Putiki Hack Handicap. From a straggling start, St. Toney shot out and won all •the way. Golden Loop ran up to second at the home bend, but First Battery headed him in the last few strides. Shuja and Valentine finishjed close up, but All Blue was unfortunate at the start and could not get ifcough. Dreadless, Ooroneted, Clemora-and Tiptoe were baofced in that order for the Spring Handicap. After a long-'delay at the barrier, the field went off in fair order. Clemora and Dreadless, ninnding neck and neck, were together for six furlongs, the rest .being spread over a furlong. 'Clemora' was first into the'straight and lasted long enough to win by half, a length from Sir Antrim.
