DISTRICT NEWS.
EGMONT VILLAGE, (From Our Own Correspondent.) The, concert in aid of the prize fund was held in* the fhall on Friday last; There was a full house and the audience throughout was appreciative. Mr. A. Morton occupied the chair. The programma was as follows:—Overture, the orchestra; reaping song, children; sing, "Racked in the Cradle of the Deep," Mr. Earp; pianoforte duet, Misses A. Smith and M. Rudd; duet, "Driving the Cattle to Mkrket," Masters J. Morton and R. Me Beth; song,, "'Silver Threads among; the Gold," Miss B.; Hall; pianoforte solo, Sirs. H. Matthews; Japanese fan song, ci'flildnen; song, /'l'll Sfiijg Thee Songs of Araby," Mr. Hi. C. Fenton; 'cello solo, Mr. R... G., 'Marsto; duet, "No, Sir!" Mrs. A. Mcßetih andi Mr. G. r F. Dewhirst; piano solo, Miss A. Smith; trio, "Nice Young Maidens," Mlfi&is : Meßefch, Heal anij Dewhirst; pdocolo solo, Mil . J. Egarr; tableau and song, "The Land of Little Children," Mr. G. .'F.' Dewhirst; song, "Sweet Genevieve,"' Mr. Earp.. This brought the firsit portion of the programme to a close, and an overture foy .the orchestra opened the second half. Then followed the farce, "Poor PilliooM"," bv tihe local amateurs. The cast of characters was as follows.-—"John Peter Pilliicqddy," a; nursery man, Mr. G. F. Dewihirst; "Anastasia Pillicoddy" (his wife and formerly widow of the late' Captain ■ Mtzpatriek O'Scuttle''),' Mrs. Mcßeth; "Sarah Blunt" (their. servant and shop-girl), Mts. H. W; Baxter; "Captain Fitzgerald O'Scuttle" (second cousin to the late Captain Fitzpatrick O'Scuttle), Mr. E. Dewhiir-st; "Julia O'Scuttle" (his wife and Anastasia Pillicoddy's sister)i, Miss N. Mcßeth. The plot, wliicih. is well worked out, is one of mistaken identity, poor "Pillicoddy" mistaking "Captain Fitzgerald O'Scuttle" for to's wife's first husband', "Captain Fit-z----patrick O'Scuttle." The interest is well maintained 'throughout ami the whole farce is decideidjy liuinorous, both of which facts combined to make it an unqualified success. The staging and dressing were good and there was no hitdh in the production. At Win conclusion Mr. Morton -thanked .those present for their attendance a-iKI a verse of the National Anthem wa9 sung. The floor was then clearr;:) for dr icing, Mr. N. George acting as M.C. The orchestra w.exe responsible for excellent music.
