NATIONAL PARK BOARD

MONTHLY METING. The monthly meeting of the Egmont National Park Board was held yesterday morning. Present: Messrs P. Simpson (chairman), ,S. Percy-Smith, W. A. Collis, J. R. Hall, F. W. Marchant, Budge, F. W. Wilkie and C. Goodson. Leave of absence was granted to Mr. A. H. Moore. The chairman reported that he had had a number of maps drawn showing the roads, etc., in the park. They wall be framed and placed in the different houses. Unframed copies will ibe handed to the members of the Board. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan were re-appointed caretakers of the North Egmont Hous'", and Mr. Bfan was re-appointed ranger. The appointment of a caretaker for the East House was left in the hawof Messrs Marc-bant and Budge. Mr. Budge was empowered to act in con l nection with the matter of reported vandalism at the East House. A statement of finances presented by the secretary showed that the following balances were at credit:—North Committee, £B6; East Committee, £49 Ts 6d; Board, £42 lGs. The debit balances were: South Committee, £2 9s 9d; West Committee, 16s Bd. The Board considered, at some length a rougih draft of the new iby-laws it is intended to, bring into force. A few alterations were made. .It was decided' to instruct the" solicitors to draft' a clause to the effect that any persons who, have not returned tt> the House from climbing or exploring by 10 p.m. (unless having previously arranged with tha, caretaker) shall be deemed to be lost and the caretaker be entitled to remuneration of not less than £1 for searching for them. Later it was decided to amend the time to 10 pm from November to February, and 8 p.ia. during the other months of the year, and the remuneration was altered to not less than 5s per hour. With regard to the Board's claim against the Railway Department for [ royalty on stone removed from the Park prior to July, 1909, the Director of the Tourist Department forwarded a copy of a memo, sent by tthe Minister for Railways to the former Department, intimating that he. did not see 'ihis way to authorise his Department to pay the Board's claim. The Minister for Railways adde:l: "I may say, however, that the National Park Board has been put to no expense in the matter, whereas the construction of the line and the in stallaAion of the crushing plant have provided a means by which portion of the reserve which was previously lyinw idle has ibeen made revenue-producing."
