WELLINGTON DOCK
WORK TO BE DISCONTINUED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Harbor Board at a special meeting a few days ago considered a letter from McLean and Sons, contractors for the construction of the graving dock at a cost of nearly £200,000, stating that the work could not be carried out according to specifications. The Board resolved then to abandon the contract. This decision was confirmed at an ordinary meeting to-night, when the chairman made a full statement of the position. It was decided to endeavor to get a Bill by Parliament authorising the Board to postpone the construction of the dock and providing that the Board may at any time construct th' 1 dook and may apply the sum of £250.000, part of the loan authorised by the Wellington Harbor Board Reclamation and Empowering Act, 1908, to the construction of such dock and works incidental thereto.
