TURF TOPICS.
(By "Moturoa.") Heavy, rain interfered with training operations at Wangamii on Saturday morning, but a good- number of horses were out working between the showers. The gallop of the morning was between Danube and Polymorphous. The former carried a light boy, and George Price was astride the. Higjhden horse. Breaking | away from the seven furlongs post, Polymorphous, (on the inside) showed well clear in the first furlong. Danube gradoially improved his position until, at the three furlong peg, he had iU i 9 head in front. From that out Danube had matters all >Ms own way, and though Price gave Polymorphous a reminder with the stick, the Canterbury horse easily defeated has rival, and came in three or. four lengths ahead. The time was •riven as lmin, 31 3-feec, and Mason's charge could hare done" better if pushed There is no doubt Danube is in capital nick, and he may prove a hard nut for Formby to crack in the Guineas. Countermine and Big Blast arrived at Wangand on Saturday and are looking in capital nick.
The pencillers did not write Billy Shannons name the first day of the Martinborough races, but somebody "in the know" peppered' the layers all over the colony on Friday. M.r. *R. Skipwith (Sir Bedvedere) has ly.-cii appointed starter to the Dannevirke Racing Club.
Ibis week's Wanganui Spring meetnig is arousing grtat interest, and winners should be easier to pick after ac-<eptances-'close to-night.
