Queen Alexandra has arrived in Copenhagen.—Press cable. A Teheran cablegram states that Azadulniuck, the Persian Regent, is. dead. The death is annuonced of Mr. P.Styles, of Ngnere. Deceased was an old l settler of the district. A Brislbane Press Association message is to the effect t'hat Mr, Bowman, Lead* er of the Labour Party, is seriously ill. The • death occurred at Palmers ton North 011 September 17 of Mrs.' Miliar,, mother of Mrs. A. Thompson, of Normanby. Deceased was widely known., throughout the Pivlmerston North district. x On Thursday evening the young people of the Whiteley CHurclr. teudfefed" a farewell social to Miss;Catrunj.wh'o* is>shortly leaving this district!. There was a. large attendance, and! an-enjoyable function eventuated.
An old Wangapui' College boy,. Df. Howard Christie, returned by the Tongariro from London yesterday. Dr.. Christie left New Zealand about nineyears ago, and had a very successful, university career, passing his final exam- . ination soon after attaining his majority. Since qualifying four' years agohe has been -resident medical officer lb the Glasgow Western Infirmary, Maternity Hospital, Royal Hospital for Sick Children, and Belvidere and Ruchilt Fever Hospitals. Dr. Christie goes on to Wanganui to join ithe medical firm of Drs. Christie and Wilson. . Mr. John Dalton, one of the oldest ans best known settlers of the Rofigotea dis^ c \ trict, who has been ill in a Palmerston / hospital for some time, died on Thursday morning. He was 62 years of age* [and was a native of Kilkenny, Ireland, | and took a keen interest .in public affairs, being chairman of the newly formed; Oroua Drainage Board, direct*** of tne Rongotea Dairy Company, and a. member of the Manawatu County Council.
News has been received of the deatb of Mr. P. W. Leonard Kirk, solicitor,, of Opotiki, after a long illness. The deceased was 43 years of age. He was the youngest, son of the Rev. William Kirk, the well-known Weleyan missionary, who still survives at Petone, and toother of Mr. R. C. Kirk, solicitor, of Wellington. He was the first town clerk of Petone. After a period of fanning at Otaki and Opotiki, he studied law in Auckland, and practised as a solicitor iii Opotiki for many years, holding also the positions of County and Town Board Clerk. He led a very busy life, acting also as lay-preacher on many occasions, and was highly esteemed. He is survived by a widow (a daughter of the Rev. Mr. Watkin) and three children-
