THE BOILERMAKERS' DISPUTE. London, September 21. The Boilermakers' delegates at Edinburgh have been empowered to offer the required assurances, provided the employers will undertake to settle all future disputes within a week. AN ABORTIVE CONFERENCE. Received September 22, 9.50 p.m. London, September 22. A conference in connection with the Boilermakers' trouble was held to-day under the chairmanship of Mr. Ness Henderson. The boilermakers' delegates demanded that the lock-out notice be withdrawn prior to the commencement of negotiations. Mr. Henderson, on behalf of the masters, replied that the Boilermakers' Society must state the assurances they proposed to give that the agreement would be better observed in the future. The delegates refused to agree to this and retired, spending the rest of the day in discussing the position amongst themselves. Six permanent officials favored making a definite proposal, whilst 35 delegates, representing various districts, remained obstinate. Eventually they drafted a joint memorandum to the masters. The Conference resumes to-morrow.
