In the Senate the Northern Territory Bill was put through. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENT. Received September 22, 10.30 p.m. Adelaide, September 12. In the Assembly the Treasurer, in delivering his Budget, referred to the grtat prosperity of the State. The Government would take the burden off industry and production and put it;- upon the value created-: by the energies of the people. Land and the produce of land would be freed from income tax. This would mean a loss of £60,000 to the revenue. The additional tax on estates of a value of £50,000 would remain. Exemptions under the Income Tax would be raised from £2OO to £3OO. Duties on receipts would be abolished, and an all round increase of %d in the £ on the land tax would be imposed, making a total tax of l%d. It was hoped thereby to raise £150,000. An extra increment tax of 20 per centum was imposed on the increased valme of land transferred. This would.secure honest investment and would yield £SOOO. From September I the minimum wage of 8s a day would be established for Government employees, and extra wages paid out of the general revenue. It was expected the financial year would end with a credit balance of £BO9B.
