MR. DEMPSEY.
COPY OF THE ADDRESS. The following is a copy of the address to be presented to Mr. Dempsey at the meeting in the Theatre Royal this evening:— "Dear Sir,—The twenty-fifth anniversary of your appointment to the heaa mastership of the Central School in this town affords us, your fellow townspeople, a fitting opportunity of expressing our appreciation of the invaluable services you have rendered to education and morality during that long period. As a capable and efficient teacher you have so conducted the school that it has ever been noted as one in which our children could obtain the utmost advantages offered by the system of free primary education provided by the laws of the Dominion, while the kindly interest which you have always taken in those committed to your care, and your solicitude for I their moral welfare, have exercised a wholesome influence upon the lives 01 many of your pupils for which we, anu they, cannot 'be too grateful. It is given to few men, especially in a young country like this, to occupy for such a length period, without change or interval, so responsible and useful a position. We feel that during the pasv quarter of a century your labours have been i inspired by a genuine desire to do your duty, and we recognise that, in pursuing this object, you have attained an exceptional degree of success. We rejoice that time is dealing gently with ( you, that you are still strong &nu full .of energy, and, under the good providence of Almighty God, well able to continue your useful work for years to come.
"As parents, old and present pupils, associate teachers, and fellow townsmen and townswomen, we ask your acceptance of this token of our regard and confidence, and our cordial wishes thai 1 you may long be spared to enjoy good health, prosperity, and the respect of die community of which you have proved yourself so valuable a member.
