Dargaville, Last Night. Speaking of the depletion of our forests, Mr. Gibbons, manager of the Tangowah.nj Auvmill, informed a reporter that thure cou.d be no doubt that it presented & serious problem from the national point of view. "It was a shame," he said, "to see the bush cut down for the sake of getting at the land underneath. Good timber takes so long to grow that it can never be replaced. The Government should reserve the good timber. Cheaper timber should be used for inferior work. In connection with the charge against Maria Mooney of murdering her illegitimate male cliild, an inquest was opened on the body of the infant to-day. Aftei Detective Butler had given evidence as to the finding of the body under the house and handing it to the doctors for a post mortem examination, the inquest was adjourned till Monday afternoon.
