BREWER'S THREE WIVES

THEIR MYSTERIOUS DEATHS.

VICTIMS HEAVILY INSURED.

London, August .9. A great sensation has been created throughout Sweden by what is believed to be a series of poisoning cases that has just been brought to light in Stockholm. The central figure in the case is Johann Ekland, a brewer, whose last wife died three months ago. Mrs. Ekland's death at the time did not arouse suspicion, but after awhile it got whispered about that it had not been a natural one.

The rumors of foul play eventually became so persistent that the police authorities decided to take action.

The exhumation of the body was accordingly ordered, and an analysis of the organs revealed the presence "of arsenic. The police thereupon arrested Ekland, and charged him with having poisoned his wife.

He had been married to her only six months, and as her _ death occurred in circumstances very similar to those in which Ekland's two former wives died there is, not unnaturally, the suspicion that these women also might have been poisoned.

Both were insured for fairly lange sums, and this fact, of course, suggests a motive for their removal.

At all events, the authorities have set about thoroughly investigating the circumstances in which the two first Mrs. Eklands died..
