Auckland, Saturday Night. | The Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting opened to-day. Results:— I 'Maiden Plate, six furlongs—Solus (Oliver) 1, Royal News (Buchanan) 2, Domino (Gray) 3. Also started: Fraulein, Caruso, Sabine, Musterer, Waiotahi, Wee Olga, Kilsyth, Monoplane, Master Wairiki, Black Bird, Lieut. Soult, Columba, Caedmon, His Highness, Lady Betty, Blue Vale, Bonnie Fishwife, Euhi, Master Jack, Monocle, Miss Ada, and Royal Day. Won by a head, Caedmon and Blackbird fell.
.Henderson Handicap, four furlongs— Turbine (Buchanan) 1, Naumai (Pritchard) 2, Lady French (Deeley) 3. Also started: Emblem, Captain Soult, Princess Soult, Echo, Pairawaatu, Erin, Muskewai, St. Tarra, Fideles, and Lady Doon Won by a length. Avondale Stakes, four furlongs—Miss Winsome (Deeley) 1, Cloudy Dawn (C. Brown) 2, Oboe (Conquest) 3. Albo started: Master Glandstone, Condamine, Tranquil, and Panther. _ Won by two lengths. First Handicap Hurdles, two miles— Paritutu (W. Young) 1, Don Quex (Speakman) 2, Wellcast (Deeley) 3. Also started: Swagsman, Tui Cakabou, Omati Ranana and Rangihaetea. Won easily by two lengths. Avondale Cup, of 300 sovs, one mile and a quarter—C. L. Lagor's California, by San Fran—Dazzile, (EL Gjray) 1; North East (W. Young) 2, Waimangu (Deeley) 3. Also started: Uranium, Sir Artegal, Lochbuie, Coromandel, Uhlando, Douma, Michaeloff, and Flying Soult. Won on the post, the judge's verdict being "half a nose." Waimangu was third a length away, then followed Coromandel, Sir Artegal, Uranium, Lochbuie, Douma, Flying Soult, with Michaeloff last. Time 2min lOsec.
First Handicap Steeplechase, about 3 miles—Antarctic (Scott) 1, Kapakapu (Howard) 2, First Barrel (Cowan) 3. Also started: Le Beau, Cavaliero, Luscombe. Won by six lengths. Islington Handicap, seven furlongsAdmiral Soult (Deeley) ,1, General Soult (Wilson) 2, Ruaparaha (Porter) 3. Also started: Rarata, Ballyheigh, Sublime, Lady Dot, Zinnia, Seldom, First Wairiki, Taka, Epsom Lass, Master Theory, and Mistime. Won by half a length. Flying Stakes Handicap, six furlongs— Miss Winnie (J. Brady) I,' Kakama (Deeley) 2, Blue Garment 3. Also started: King Soult, Wild West, and Illustrious. Won by three lengths.
