STRATFORD NOTES.

(Prom Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday Night. Mr. J. Masters, a member of the staff at the Stratford railway station, has been promoted to the position of relieving officer for the stations between Ohafcune, Feilding and New Plymouth. Mi. \Y. E. Henry, eldest son of Mr. H. J. Jones, of Stratford, died at Auckland yesterday. The remains are being brought to Stratford for burial. This morning a dust storm made things very unpleasant in Broadway, and the services of the water cart were required. This afternoon drizzling rain fell and the "sing of summer" vanished. Mr. T. E. Taylor, M.P., has been invited to give an address on no-license at an early date at Stratford.

The effects of no-license in Masterton was the subject of an address in the Town Hall last night by Mr. C. J. Tocker. At the conclusion of the meeting a resolution was passed that as the address confirms the accounts already received of the success of no-license in Masterton electorate this meeting pledged itself to endeavour to bring about the same desirable state of affairs in the Stratford electorate. Mr. Tocker was accorded a vote of thanks for his> address.

Politicians' disputes are sometimes very amusing to the looker-on, who wonders whether the disputants take themselves seriously. A little time back a grant was made by the Government towards the Ohura road. The present member, Mr. J. B. Hine, lays claim to having furthered the application, and to having contributed towards the success which attended it. No sooner is something said in the local paper about Mr. Hine's attention to the wants of the district than Mr. J. McCluggage, who, if report is true, has an eye on the Stratford seat, enters the lists and denies Mr. Hine's right to take credit for what was really accomplished by representative meetings of Wlianga and Tatu settlers. Now, probably the zealous partisans of the factions will squabble as to whose is the right to pose in the limelight and say "Alone I did it."
