AMUSEMENTS

"THE GIRL FROM RECTOR'S." There is only one test to apply to farcical comedy to prove its title to the • claim: Does it cause laughter? If hearty, splendid l&ughter of the spontaneous order bursts round "one like 3 fizz-bombs on America's Fourth o' July, then it is a good farcical comedy; if, on' r 'the contrary, the laughter splutters feeb- " ly at indefinite intervals or not at all, • -the opposite conclusion may with safety > |be jumped at. In the case of "The Girl • from Rector's," no question of this kind arises. Potter's broadly farcical play is funny enough to cure a cold, intrinsically "smart" in the best Franco-American sense of the word, and fits the company like the glove on the hand of a gen- • tleman. To-one fond of laughter it is sound advice to go on an hilarious riot with "The Girl from Rector's." In this I comedy, that inimitable comedian, Hu<*h L J. Ward, is at his best, and that is coilceding much. The piece recently staged • in Wellington was the subject of much comment, which all ended in a big tri- ; umph for its attractiveness and entertainment. It will be staged here for one night only on Friday next.
