On Tuesday morning, 20 th inst., at 9 o'clock, Ambury's make their first display of spring fashions. Thirteen separate consignments on three big steamers should give the public such an assortment of wearing apparel that the most fastidious lady or. gent should be easily pleased. Their London buyers have been fortunte in procuring from the best English and Continental manufacturers splenid ranges at lowest priccst of choicest goods in every department. Arrangements are well in hand for St. Joseph's euchre party and dance, which is to be held' in the Rolland Hall on Monday evening, 10 th inst. The prizes for the euchre tournament consist of: Ladies, Ist, handsome silver plated cruet; 2nd, silver belt; 3rd, photo, frame. Gents, Ist, Bengal razor, with Torrv strop; 2nd, silver-mounted cigarette holder; 3rd, a pigskin purse. The prizes are now on vieW in J. Bennett's window, Devon street. The ladies' committee will provide refreshments, after which a dance will be held.
Satin stripes are a very distinct feature of the dress trade this season, and these are showing in a very large variety of qualities and colorings at White & Son's. The prices range from 2s to 3s lid per yard, and among the new dolors aTe burnt, mulberry, amethyst, putty, crash, rose, heliotrope, etc; The assortment of men's tailor-made suits advertised in the Melbourne's great celebration sale is bv far the largest ever offered' in any similar event. As for the values, you can judge for yourself, for in many instances the selling prices do not cover the cost of the fabrics alone. The public reminded of the sale of properties which Mr. Newton King is holding at the Mart, Devon street, New Plymouth, on Saturday next. The one lot, comprising a splendid property of about 19 acres, with large and commodious dwelling house of Ifi rooms, 2roomed cottage, stables and outhouses, tennis lawn, large orchard and wellplanted with shelter trees, is situated at Fitzroy, within two minutes of the Ims terminus. This fine demesne is eminently suitable either for a gentleman's residence or as a private hospital, for which it is at present beinw used. Easy terms are offered, and the property" should meet with ready sale. The services in Queen Street Church to-morrow will be conducted by the Rev. John Nixon. In the morning, "at 11, the subject will ibe, "The jov about .which Jesus was silent"; evening, at 7, subject, "A song of perfect trust." All seats free.
