PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

♦ MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board was heid on Wednesday. There were present: Messrs. Jas Young (chairman), M. Deegan, T. Harvey, P. 11 iiieox, and J. Ducker. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman reported as follows: upper Kaweoia Jttoad.—This deviation contract has been completed and passed. Aganki Road— Worn authorised had not yet been done, but some repairs Had Deeu done by iur. \\ rignt at a cost oi £l. -Vianihi Road.—The contractor has been notified to proceed wnn contract' re forming and cleaning drams. Warea Koad. —Xnis x u au is now passable, and repairs have ceased for a while. Tile bridge will be ciosed for repairs on the 19th and 20th, as tar has now come to hand. A ford has been made to take traffic. Ihaia Road.—This contract above Wiremu road is getting fairly advanced on the contractors own risk and without any supervision. Should there be any intormation re money, the foreman asked that he be instructed to inspect the work done. Bayley Road.—A large culvert near' Mr. .Alexander's required renewing. It would cost, with timber, £lB 10s, and 3ft pipes £l3 10s. The foreman was empowered to replace with pipes, when absolutely necessary. Upper Arawliata Road,—Repairs have been completed, but some drains are very much' blocked and will need to be attended to-save the road.—Left in foreman's hands. Witeora, Opourapa, Tipoka, and Lower Parihaka roads have been repaired and some metalling has been done on the Jtiarvey read. Kepairs to the Harvey, Rahotu, Upper Kahui and Lower ivina roads will oe attended to. The action of the overseer in metaliing portion o£ Opourapa road was confirmed. i'ne foreman was authorised to inspect I a creek encroaching oh Arawnaca road, wnli power to act. GENERAL. The chairman's action in purchasing a sate was confirmed. A general rate of %d in the £ was strucK for the ensuing year, and the. chairman and Mr. Wilicox were appointed to sign the rate book. • The Valuation Department notified that subsidy to the amount of £.184 9s 9d had been paid to the credit of the Board. The chairman was appointed to represent the Board on the deputation to interview the Premier re the Opunake railway. If he is unable to go, Mr. Harvey will take his place. Members were unanimous in the necessity for a railway. The Board resolved to sell to Messrs. Johnson, Higgins and Co., pipes required, delivery to he taken at the Board's office. V Steps will be-taken to raise a special rate on Opua Road, the necessary petition having been received. The Board decided to form a footpath with concrete kerbing from the Main road to the Board's office. The question of a blocked culvert on the lower Kahui road, complained of by Mr. Wilicox, was discussed—No action is to be taken. Mrs. Kahui applied to have fences removed off the road leading" to her property.—Application acceded to. It was resolved on the motion of the chairman and ;Mr.: Wilicox that the clerk write to the Valuation Department and ,ask that the Arawhata and Opua roads be re-valued for rating purposes. Accounts to the amount of £226 were passed for payment. '
