AMATEUR ELOCUTION.

Palmerston North, Last Night. At the elocutionary competitions this evening, Mr. Byron Brown was placed first for Shakespearian reading at sight, and the test recitation "Tubal Cain"; Mr. R. H. Billens was second and Miss Stanton third in sight reading, Mr. V. Christensen second for "Tubal Cain" and Mr. L. W. Hanlon third. In the ladies' Shakesperian recitation the "Dethroned Queen," Miss M. Pole was first, and Miss Clater second. In the humorous recitation Mr. S. W. Oliver was first and Mr. Fraser second. '
