ABSURD FINES. By Cable—Press' Association—Copyright. Dunedin, September 15. At Balclutha several persons, chiefly cattle dealers, were ' charged with cruelty to animals by leaving cattle in saleyards from Friday's sale till Saturday afternoon. In one extreme case cattle were railed from Central Otago on Tuesday morning and then to Burnside yards, offered for sale the following day,"" railed to Balclutha on Thursday, sold at the yards on Friday, and not till the afternoon of the fifth day (Saturday) did they receive either food or water. Fines of 10s and costs were imposed.
