HIS MISSION TO SOUTH AFRICA. By Tulegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night The Hon. G. Fowids, who is leaving Wellington to-day en route for South Africa to represent the Dominion' at the opening of the Union Parliament, was* entertained at Bellamys to-night, and presented with a silver loving cup from members of Parliament. Sir J. G. Ward, who presided, in proposing Mr. Fowids' health, alluded to the fact that the day was the fiftieth anniversary of Mr. Fowld's birthday. He hoped that he would be spared many happy years and wished him "God speed" in his important mission. From every point of view, so far as the Dominion was concerned, it was a good thing to be represented. Mr. Fowids was particularly fitted for the mission, having himself been some years resident in South Africa. He asked Mr. Fowids to convey to the people of South Africa the good wishes of the people or New Zealand, and expressed the hope that they will steer clear clear of 411 troubles in the future. Mr. Massey added a few congratulatory remarks in a similar strain. The speaker considered the rfsit of Mr. Fowids would be productive of much good. Mr. Fowids, in response, said he appreciated very much the warm words of appreciation, and thanked his colleagues for the honour done him. The action of tie Imperial Parliament in granting a constitution to South Africa had been justified. It would be a great pleasure to him to convey to the people of South Africa, Dutch as Well as British, the greetings of the people of New Zealand..
