AUCKLAND'S VICE-REGAL RESI- ' DENCE. j 1 By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. Government -lias decided to retain the Governor's residence at Auckland and to divide the grounds there, giving 3% i acres for university purposes. The Governor's residence will be renovated and refurnished for the use of the Governor. —'J A MISSIONARY'S BREACH. Wellington, September 14. A marriage by a Home missionary outside liis own district came before! the Wellington Presbytery, who considered it a breach of ecclesiastical law. The Waikato Presbytery, where the -missionary belonged, was written for information as to the correctness of the report. That body's minutes stated that the letter was "received" and that the meeting closed with prayer. It was decided by the Wellington body to, report the matter to the funeral As* sembly v I N.Z. LABOUR PARTY. , Wellington, Last Night. About 100 persons attended the meet-, ing convened by the Trades and Labour Council to-night, when it was resolved to form a branch of the New Zealand Labour Party, established at the recent Trades Council Conference. M, BONUS TO BANK OFFICERS. Wellington, Last Night. The staffs of the Bank of Australasia in New Zealand have received intelligence that they will be given a bonus at the rate of 10 per cent, upon their an-| nual salaries. The last bonus to the staffs of the bank was given three years ago. | ALLEGED INCENDIARISM. Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court this morning a man named Cornelius Moloney was committed for trial on a charge of wilfully setting fire to a stable in Grant road on the night of Saturday last.
SCHOOL ELOCUTION. Palmerston North, Last Night. The Technical School elocutionary competitions, which are to extend for three nights, opened this evening. Mr. T. L. Buick was judge, and made the following awards: Ladies' test recitation, "The Bridge," Miss Pole 1, Miss Watson 2. Boys' test, "The Fireman," Winton Brown 1 1 , Jienry Knight 2. Shakespearian dialogue, Miss Watson 1, L. Haydon 2. Ladies' humorous recitation, Miss Pole 1, Miss Clater 2. Impromptu speech, McConnell 1, Christensen 2. The competitors hail from various parts of the North Island. .
