THE WILLOUGHBY TRAGEDY.
PHILLIPS SENTENCED TO DEATH. By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright Received September 14, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, September 14. Phillips was found guilty of murdering his daughter on April 17, and was sentenced to death. The body of Phillips' daughter, aged eight years, was found by a man while gathering flowers, buried in the scrub near Willoughby. She had been butchered in an atrocious manner. Phillips attended the disinterment of the remains of his daughter, and unconcernedly smoked a cigarette the while. He was a laborer in poor circumstances, and apparently not on the best of terms with his wife.
