MOREY'S "AT HOME."

A PROMENADE DISPLAY,

Messrs. VV. Morey and Son were "at home" last night to the ladies of New Plymouth. The reception took the' form of a promenade display, and the palates of the throng of visitors were entertained and delighted, not with mm , or sweetmeats, or even "the cup «hat cheers," but with a veritable feast sent direct rom the centres of fashion in Europe, and daintily and artistically served up iby an energetic and clevei staff of assistants. The one thing wantin<>' was the presence of the principals —Mr. W. Morey, sen., the founder of I n,„ who health forbids night

excursions just now, and Mr. J. C. Morey, who has not yet returned to New Plymouth from his visit to the manufacturing centres of England and the Continent. They "would have been prouder still of their firm and their staff could they have seen the store last night, arraged as it was never arrayed before in its spring and summer mantle, this state being rendered possible only by Mr. Morey's personal contract with "the people at the other end." The windows are redolent of spring flowers, and the lovely sunshades are, suggestive of summer. There are sunshades everywhere. The main shop is a veritable avenue of sunshades, suspended from lines overhead, and these are in marvellous variety and

exquisite beauty. Dressgooils and trin minga fill the main shop, but what dres, goods, and: what trimmings! It is quit' impossible to 'give even a faint descrip tion of them here, but it will give som< idea of the richness of them when wi say that some of them sell at perilousl; near three pounds a yard. Keckweai is just as beautiful this year, and som< of the jabots are very rich-looking. The new dress goods are bewildering in their fresh designs and dainty colorings, and bewildering in their nomenclature, too, for the Parisians have sent us a "moire renaissance," and there are equally highsounding names. There are the Paisley ■Housings, taffetas, silk and cotton, and I silk-stnpcd voiles, cabrics and muslins, the new shantungs, organdies, two-toned zephyrs, embroidered and silk-worked wool and silk and stilk-striped delaines, French tweeds and worsteds, silk and cotton tussores, tussore-striped silks for iblousings, silk satins, oliennes and crystallines, and so on. Mr. Elliot drew our attention to some very special ''magpie" and ''jackdaw" trimmings, placed near a line assortment of boxed robes and silk all-over laces and insertion en suite. In the showroom Miss Ramson has shown the pick of the Paris modes in millinery, bigger even than last year's, but trimmed with smaller flowers. It is an underskirt room, though. Everywhere overhead are underskirts, and they are in all the materials and all the colors that fashion decrees must be worn this year, including lovely white embroidered goods. Dress robes are ah voiles chiefly, but there aiv some fine white embroidered ones, whilst cite costumes are in linens and the - new and Shantungs. Messrs. Morey and) Son have the biggest and best stock of blouses that they have every had. What need to say more of them? Dustcoats in lustres, shantungs and tustres, etc., include some with pretty Paisley collars. This fashion' display is going to be "the" talk amongst the ladies for a while.
