PECULIAR MOTORING ACCIDENT.

TWO MEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. A serious accident occurred on Thorndon Quay this morning. Mr. William Cable, the well-known ironfounder, accompanied by his son Roy Cable, agea 18, and three employees, left the foundry at Kaiwarra for the works in town. They were seated in a motor car driven by Roy Cable, who did not notice a wire rope stretched across the street in connection with some building qperations near the Thorndon (Manawatu) Railway Station. The car drove under the rope, which seriously injured Mr. Cable and his son. The lower part of Mr. Cable's face was crushed in, and an operation rendered necessary. Roy Cable sustained concussion of the brain, and the otlier occupants were more or less injured.
