HARBOR BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent'. ) The usual monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbor Board was held on Friday evening. There were present: Messrs. Stubbs (chairman), Wilson, Jenkins, Chappell, Foreman, and Spurdle. Messrs. Elliot and Bayly notified the Board that they had transferred their interest in a Board lease to A. J. Kibby, and a piggery to iP. Skelton.— The transfers were approved, and leases from the Board to H. M. Lund, J. Kempsail and W. Wilkes were executed. The Board's solicitor advised that it would be necessary to forward a copy of the resolution accepting the surrender of the leases of Messrs. Borthwick and the granting of new leases. It was resolved to confirm by resolution the Board's previous action so as to make the transfer legal. Mr. S. Pearce applied to have a portion of land close to the bridge put up by auction. The matter had been dealt with by the Works Committee at a rental of £l2 per annum.—The Works Committee's action was confirmed. The same applicant applied for per-' mission to remove buildings on sec. 17, blk 90.—Permission was granted. Mr. G. Pott applied for a reduction of rental or allow him to surrender his lease of a portion of the land containing 2 acres, and he was prepared to pay' £4 per annum for three-quarters of an, acre.—lt was resolved to refer the mat-1 ter to the valuation committee to report' at next meeting. J. H. Wallace and Co. advised that a cable had been sent cancelling a portion of the order, and stating that others had been sent on. The chairman stated that the Works Committee had decided to comply with an application from Hatrick and Co. to' drive some piles in front of their newj building so as to permit' them to loao.'; goods direct from the shed before the | wharf extension was completed.—Thej committee's action was confirmed. Captain Kelly, of the s.s. Tongariro, forwarded a letter through the New Zealand Shipping Co., in reference to the shoal patch off Waitara. Accounts amounting to £163 18s 2d were passed for payment. The Chairman reported that the Valuation Committee had left M. James' rental at the same as previously. In reference to* Messrs. Burgess and Fxaser's application! nothing had yet been done. The' firm would be prepared to accept a, new lease of the smaller allotment, al-! though they would like to have both.— I Some discussion arose as to what the Board's requirements might be in the immediate future. It was pointed out. that when the firm took up the site,! they put a large amount of stuff overi the wharf, but for the last year or two very little had come this way, and it was a question as to whether, owing to this fact, a renewal should be granted. The wharf sites were really for the use ■ of those who would ship through the port.—lt was resolved to offer the ap-1 plicants a renewable lease of 25 feet at i a rental of £1 10s per foot. Mr. Jenkins asked for permis-j sion, on behalf of the Council, to erect a batten along the bridge as a safeguard j for children crossing the bridge. | r Mr. Jenkins said he would be in Wei' lington next week and if there was anything he could do in respect to the Harbor Bill he would be pleased. Plans for the new wharf were laid on the, table for inspection, after which' they would have to go to Wellington! for the approval of the Marine Department. The chairman was authorised to write to the New Zealand Shipping Company submitting for approval a suggestion for the company leasing a portion of the J foreshore lower down than Hatrick's! for the erection of a wool store.
