AMUSEMENTS
VALDARES' ENTERTAINERS. The above clever company of entertainers opened a two-nights' season at the Theatre Royal last evening. There was a good house. A long and splendid programme was submitted, but there was an entire freedom from any lagging or filling in time. Mr. Fred Foley, as the magician and illusionist of the troupe, quickly demonstrated his unique cleverness with a number of mystifying tricks, stamping him a master in his profession, while in his ventriloquist turn he was amusing to a degree. The Varno Sisters and Mr. James Titus supplied considerable mirth in their singing and dancing sketch. One of the best features of the entertainment was the marvellous work of Reggiardo in his extraordinary light and heavy juggling. This artist also introduces a pair oi highly trained poodle dogs, one being a veritable wonder. Amongst other tricks it performs, is one wherein it leaps into the air, turns' a double somersault, and hinds with its fore-paws on the trainer' 9 fore-finger, and there remains perfectly balanced. Reggiardo's juggling with knives, .swallowing swords and other sensations in themselves are an entertainment. Miss Diamond Hart showed her ability as an artistic dancer. The trick bicycle riding of the Valdares is easily the best thing of its kind seen by New* Plymouth theatre patrons. The wondrous tricks executed on the wheel are of great interest. They career around with their cycles in all kinds of queer positions; ride two, three and four on one machine with perfect balance, perform a set of lancers most gracefully, and do other startling things. They seem equally at home riding onewheel cycles, one of the troupe showing a clever turn on an ordinary cart 'wheel. I The moving pictures were very interesting. j This afternoon a special matinee performance will be given for children, , when the prices tor admission. will be Gd for children and" Is for adults. To-night the Valdares give their final performance, and. if merit counts, they should be rewarded with a full house.
■'The Valdares" and their clever company of entertainers will appear at Waitara Public Hall on Monday, Sept. 12, Urenui Tuesday. Sept. 13, and at Inglewood Parish Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Owing to the fact that so many companies are at the present time playing in the larger towns of Taranaki, "The Valdares" have been unable to fill their dates in rotation, so rather than lay idle, they are taking their entire show for all the smaller towns.
