STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford. Last Night. Still they come! Forty new members were proposed at the meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association on Saturday. And like Oliver Twist the committee are asking for more, and several of the committee have pledged themselves, under penalty of payment of fees in ease of failure ; to bring in five members each at the next meeting. One member was not content with five and fixed ten as his number. This morning he secured seven. Messrs. T. E. Coleman, F. E. Dobson, and C. Jackson have been elected members of the general committee of the A. and P. Association. The result of the canvass of the town for special prizes for the A. and P. Association's Show resulted in £2OO being promised, ft is to be hoped that the farming community will make en equally liberal response to the appeal to tlhem.

Tenders are being called forthwith for the erection of a grand "stand on the show ground, and the executive committee have put in hand the contract for levelling the show ring. The No-neve Dairy Company has consigned its output through Messrs. Lovell and Christmas on a guarantee without recourse. A special train of thirty-three trucks of sheep arrived at Stratford on Saturday en route for Te Wera, On account of the lines not permitting the train to pass, the trucks had to be taken °"t by two trains. As soon as tihe rerailing of the Toko section is completed such a course will no longer be necessary.

A trap driven by Mrs. Parker, ot Ngaere. came into collision with another vehicle in Regan Street on Saturday night. Both Mrs. Parker and Miss McKeown were thrown out. but ibevond a severe shaking escaped without injury. Mr. Mcßeth, who is leaving the employ of Mr. A. Thompson to take up farming at. Manaia, was presented on Saturday ni<rht by his fellow employees and friends with a case of pipes. The following are the results of the men's bogey competition played last week: —J. H. Thompson (7) 1 down. H. L. Betts (15) 1 down. A. Mackay (24) 2 down. A. C. .Tones (8) 5 down, P. Jackson (14) 5 down. F. W. Wake (15) 5 down. Dr. Menzies (12) f> down, F. N. Fussell (4) 10 down. H. Thompson (15) 11 down, 0. Vaughan (16) 12 down.
