KING EDWARD HOSPITAL
WELLINGTON AND THE CHILDREN. £16,000 AVAILABLE FOR THE HOSPITAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of the committee appointed by the citizens in connection with the Mayoress' campaign to raise money for the erection of a Children's Hospital, was held to-night. His Excellency the' Governor presided. I It will be remembered that early last" month Mrs. Wilford set out to collect i £3500, it being then considered that this sum, with the Government subsidy,' would be sufficient for immediate requirements. So ready was the responst of the public, however, that the sum named was subscribed in a few days, and it was decided to go in for a larger scheme. The fund has now closed, and ■ it was announced to-night that the sub-| scriptions total £7300, while expenses have been only £2 10s. The Govern-! ment subsidy will bring the amount available for the building to about .£16,000. Lord Islington and other speakers expressed great gratification at the splen-] did success of the scheme. It was re-, solved to recommend that the new hoa-j pi-tal be named after the late King I Edward. I
