DOES IT FAIL? By Cable.'—Press Association.— I Copvright Received September 5, 12.10 a.m. London, September 5. The Financial News, reviewing the results of the eight hours' system in mines, states that 20 per cent, more fatal accidents have occurred in six months, as compared with those occurring before the Act came into force, owing to "scamping" of repair works; while the three shifts methods force women to continuously prepare meals. Owing to the f&ct that miners have to take more baths and oftener change their clothes, many miners' earnings are reduced from five to seven shillings weekly. Consumers pay sixpence to eiglitpence a ton more for coal.
