SUPREME COURT.
PALMERSTON SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. Palmerston North, September 3. Mr. Justice Cooper heard argument in an important case this morning. It was an originating summons brought by the executor of the will of the late Mrs. Mary Sellars to test the validity of a bequest given to the Roman Catholic Church for the masses for the repose of her soul. Decision was reserved. THIEVES SENTENCED. Wellington, Last Nigbt. At the Supreme Court yesterday Thomas Finnerty, for theft, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. His Honor, Mr. Justice Chapman, said he would recommend that prisoner be sent to Invercargill Gaol or to a tree planting station. James Henwood was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment for theft. Prisoner said his offence was attributable jto intemperance. His Honor said that care should be taken to send prisoner to a suitable prison, where he would receive better treatment than anywhere else.
