ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
BUSHFELLING ACCIDENT. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Gisborne, September 3. J. Drummond, manager of Taihora Saw Mill, injured by a bushfelling accident on Thursday, is in a critical state and not expected to recover. WOMAN'S BODY FOUND. Wellington, Last Night. The body of a woman was seen floating in the harbor yesterday morning. It was brought to shore and taken to the morgue. There are no marks of violence on the body, which was subsequently identified as that of Mrs. May. of Wellington.
A SAD CASE. Gisborne, Last Might. Mr. Reid iSmith, a Tologa Bay settler, who has been endeavouring to cope with the typhoid 'fever epidemic amongst Maoris at To'komaru Bay, by nursing several patients during the past two months, contracted the disease and succumbed this morning. Deceased was a splendid nurse, much respected on the coast. ACCIDENT ON HOCKEY FIELD. Auckland, Last Night. A player named R. Speight had his leg broken while playing in a third grade match yesterday. ACCIDENT AT POITOKURA. A frightful accident happened on the Whanigamomona Saddle on Wednesday. C. iStableton, carter for the Public Works Department, while going over the Saddle with a load of gelignite, somehow got too near the outside edge. The consequence was that the dray went over the side with, the horses and driver. The dray was broken to pieces and the shatter killed. Staples was recovered and conveyed to Stratford Hospital.— Pohokura correspondent.
